Counselling for Caregivers of Individuals with Dementia
Many people living with dementia rely on the support of family members. While caregiving can be a deeply meaningful experience, it can also bring significant emotional, physical, and practical challenges. Caregivers may experience fatigue, increased stress, changes in daily routines, financial pressures, social isolation, and shifts in personal relationships. The emotional impact of supporting a loved one through the progression of dementia can also be considerable.
Supporting caregivers in looking after their own well-being is essential—not only to maintain the quality of care they provide, but also to ensure a balanced and sustainable life for themselves.
Our work together may include:
- Psychoeducation about dementia, including symptoms, progression, and how the condition may present in daily life.
- Support in understanding and managing complex emotions related to caregiving and life changes.
- Guidance on sharing caregiving responsibilities within the family.
- Development of communication skills to enhance understanding and interaction with individuals living with dementia.
